YOUNG LOCAL PEOPLE ATTEND ADVENTIST RALLY
Four young people have been appointed delegates from Whakatane to the Seventh Day Adventist Youth Congress to be held at the Adventist Missionary College, Longburn, from April 6 to 10. The idea of a .'nation-wide Congress for Adventist youth is comparatively new, and the coming /rally at Longburn will be the first of its kind in New Zealand. The recent Youth Congress in Australia was attended by over 1,000 delegates, 100 being New Zealanders. This was so successful that a Congress for New Zealand was immediately planned. The President of the North ft.Z. Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, Pastor R. J. Burns, points out the purpose of the Congress. He said: “Seventh Day Adventists believe that Christ will return to this earth in person in the very near future and the purpose of the Congress is to lay plans for the enlistment of Adventist youth in the denomination’s programme to warn world of its impending judgment.
In addition to the College buildings, 100 tents will be pitched, together with large x marquees. for meetings and lectures, and it is expected that at least 450 delegates will attend.
