Bridge Maintenance
The decking of the Edgecumbe bridge has been coated with old oil by the Whakatane County staff. Planking has also been re-spiked.
Inter-Union Rugby Games At the annual meeting of the Tauranga Rugby Sub-Union it was decided to suggest througn the Bay of Plenty Union that inter-union representative games be delayed to as late in the season as practicable.
Taneatua Footpaths Approval has been received from the Main Highways Board to proceed with the work of constructing lOi chains of concrete footpaths by the Whakatane County Council. A tender has been accepted and the contractor has been instructed to go ahead with the work.
Archery Championships The next New Zealand Archery Championships are to be held next year at Christchurch, it was decided at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Archery Association. It was also decided that the headquarters of the New Zealand Council will be in Wellington for the coming year.
Thornton Garden Party A successful garden party attracted a large crowd to Mrs N. McDonald’s residence, Thornton, conducted by the Thornton Red Cross. The weather was fine and the grounds provided a colourful setting. Competition winners: Cake, Colin Branch; mystery parcel, Lorraine Hitchens; chocolates, Don Robb. Rangitdiki Roads Serious deterioration in recent 1 years in the maintenance of roads within the Rangitaiki Plains was alleged by the Rangitaiki Branch of Federated Farmers' to the Whakatane County Council. There was some discussion and it was decided to ask the Federation to submit a schedule of the county roads, said to be in an unsatisfactory state. v More Test Tickets Wanted
Following a decision made at the annual meeting, the Tauranga Rugby Sub-Union is to ask the Bay of Plenty Union to investigate the possibilities of a more generous allocation of tickets for Rugby test matches. This question was brought up by the fact that the allocation for the test match against Australia was ten tickets to the Bay of Plenty. This means there was one ticket for Tauranga.
