SOME GOOD, FAST PERFORMANCES ON TE TEKO COURSE

(By “Carbine”)

Horses engaged for the Whakatane Racing Club’s annual meeting to be held at the Te Teko course on March 25 are being kept up to their work and in the last few days some interesting trials have been taking place on the track proper. Sleepy View (D. Perkinson up) covered one mile in lmin 40secs and worked keenly. Triplicity (T. Melrose) set to cover a fast six furlongs and picked up Raleigh (Shorty) at the four furlongs peg and although she galloped strongly had no show with the brilliant black gelding who romped home to finish with a very big lead. Triplicity’s time was 1.£2. The Duroc (G. Gartshore) scampered over five furlongs in 1.2 2-5. The best gallop of the morning came from Lady Aquillus (R. Ward). Royal Silver (H. Bunn), Tillus (J. Revell), the ' Foxbridge colt (R. Glen), who all finished abreast after covering seven furlongs in 1.28. Royal Cape (D. Archer) was sent over the big fences and jumped ten flights in a bold fashion. King Dick (J. Hasland) went boldly over six furlongs with Adonis (J. Perkinson), both horses finishing fast in 1.14 4-5. Kukunui after his fine win in the Reporoa Cup has been let off with easy exercise and looks the part for the Whakatane Cup. One of the best gallops on the track has been that of Quitzal (D. Bunn), Snooks (C. Bunn) and Silver Cane (D. Perkinson) who covered seven furlongs to finish together in 1.28 1-5. i
