Export Meat Killing Figures For N.Z. During Last Month
Wellington, Thursday.
Export meat killings for the period October 1, 1949, to February 25, 1950, show an increase of 8,846 tons over the corresponding period for last season, states the New Zealand Meat Producers Board.
Lamb killings have been well maintained over the last four weeks and still continue at approximately 100,000 carcases in excess of last season. Killings of wethers have been surprisingly heavy, being approximately 97,000 carcases in excess of those of last season. An important factor in the increased weight of meat available is the additional tonnage of quarter beef—to date approximately 4,700 tons in excess of last season.
Export killings for the North Island to February 25 with the corresponding figures for the previous season in parentheses are:— Lambs 4,442,706 (4,359,336), wethers 264,374 (174,706), ewes 759,790 (837,269), beef 96,951 (41,321), pigs 120,875 (112,269). Average killing weights to date with comparative figures for last season are:—
Lambs 34.60 (35.52), wethers 62.86 (60.78), ewes 57.86 (57.81).
