BRISK DEMAND FOR SERVICE MEDALS & CAMPAIGN STARS

Up to late Friday there had been quite a brisk demand for application forms for campaign stars, war medals and naval prize money at tpe Whakatane Post Office, where they are at present being issued. Starting last Tuesday ex-service-men and women have been making steady inquiries since. All who are entitled to stars and medals must apply for them on forms provided at the post office. There are two, one for those who served in the Home Guard only and one for all others, including patrol services. With the application forme an information pamphlet is also issued explaining eligibility. Claims must be sent to the department representing the force with which the applicant was serving at the date of his discharge, and naval personnel must enclose their service certificates with the application form. The next-of-kin of deceased exservicemen who served overseas do not have to apply for the stars and medals! These are to be supplied without application. However, such is not the case for deceased home guardsmen. Nexfe-of-kin of home guardsmen who are entitled to the award are required to apply on the form provided for homeguardsmen.
