PUKEHINA SPORTS
Sir, —Reading “Fair Play’s” letter on Friday I- could not escape the unapalatable impression that the nom-de-plume was used with the idea of suggesting that there was intentfonal unfairness in the incompleteness of a short report concerning the Pukehina Sports published in the Beacon last Monday. It is always easy to bawl insults from the sideline; much less easy to offer a helping hand. Being a person of ordinary common sense I realise that, though the Beacon’s coverage of events of local and district interest is really amazingly good it cannot be corrfplete in every detail without full co-operation from all parts of your district. I therefore suggest that if “Fair Play” knew something about the '''Pukehina Sports he thought you should publish the decent thing to do would have been to pass the information along instead of moaning abdut its omission at this late stage. I have always found the Beacon avid for local news interest.
May I echo “Fair Play’s” congratulations to Mr Stewart, Nippy and the other riders and horses (particularly the children from Matata) who were placed that day? Yours etc.,
PLAY FAIR. Whakatane, March 17. Thank you Play Fair. We do not know that Fair Play intended quite what you think he did but we do appreciate your own attitude and your constructive suggestion to him. As we have pointed out before we can only print the news we get not things of which we have no knowledge. Editor.
