Tourist Who Visited Whakatane Impressed With Scenery Of N.Z.
Mr and Mrs Leslie T. Hunt and their young daughter, Marion, who passed through Whakatane some months ago camped at Ohope while on tour of New Zealand in their de luxe caravan, are now back home at Oakleigh, Victoria. They told an Australian Press representative that they would always have imperishable memories of the kindly and considerate treatment extended to them by complete strangers as they toured the fabulously beautiful countryside of New Zealand.
“The scenery of New Zealand Will put al the other countries in the world on their merit to provide something of greater beauty,” said Mr Hunt. “The generosity and friendliness of the New Zealand people will be a challenge and an inspiration to the people of goodwill in other countries we hope to Visit later.” Mr Hunt tells an enthralling story of his tour through the Dominion and in scores qf towns, he and his wife were invited to tell of their travels and were received with a generosity which threatened to become embarrassing. Mr and Mrs Hunt’s impressions of the Maori race convey vividly the cordiality of . that highly-intelli-gent native people. Ten thousand miles of New Zealand were covered in 12 months, giving Mr and Mrs Hunt a wider knowledge of a lovely land and a generous people, and a better appreciation of human nature and Christian friendship.
