Rdbbit Board Election The third Wednesday m November is to be the election day to elect a new Pongakawa Rabbit Board. This was revealed at the monthly meeting of the Board.

Not Standing? An intimation that he would not be/ standing for the mayoralty in the local body elections in November was made *by the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, at the monthly meeting of the Whakatafie Borough Council on Wednesday night.
Closing Day The statutory closing day for shops in the Whakatane County is to be Wednesday. This is contained in an announcement in the latest issue of the New Zealand Gazette by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. Sullivan.
Fewer Rabbits
The Board could claim to be in a very good position as there was not a great number of young rabbits about now the inspector told the monthly meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board. The breeding season was now just about over.
Application Granted An application to establish a dairying business in Domain Road was granted by the Whakatane Borough Council on Wednesday night. It was felt that such a business in the area would help to fill an important need and provide a necessary service. All Maoris Welcomed All Maoris, irrespective of denomination or tribe, will be welcomed at the centennial celebrations tomorrow and -Sunday of Rangiatea, the Maori church at Otaki, it has been announced by the centennial executive. Celebrations are not restricted to adherents of the Church of England.
Power Installations
Five new ranges were connected in Whakatane last month the electrical enginer, Mr F. Lysaght, reported to the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. The same number of cylinders were also connected. Four lighting and heating and two motor were also made. *

Edgecumbe Card Evening The first of a series of card evenings was held at the Edgecumbe school on Tuesday night when there was a fair attendance. Six gamis of Progressive 500 were played. The prize winners were: Mrs A. T. Andrews (5 games), Mr J. Vickery (4 games). The winner of the competition was Mrs E. JPatterson.
Waimana Gorge Accident Abrasions and cuts were suffered by Mrs T. Comiskey, when a car in which she was driving to Whakatane turned over in the Waimana Gorge yesterday afternoon. She was admitted to the Whakatane District Hospital where her condition today was reported to be improving. The car turned over a number of times before Mrs Comiskey was able to clamber out through a window.
Bay Represented The Bay of Plenty is to be represented by Mr B. Ricketts, area councillor, at an area conference of the*' New Zealand Homeservicemen’s Association to be held in Hamilton tomorrow. Discussion will take place on all matters concerning home servicemen, particularly re-* habilitation policy, pensions, housing, land settlement and agricultural action committee reports, Broken Glass Danger The danger of broken glass and bottles, which had been thrown into the grass area around the Pohaturoa Rock was referred to by Cr E. R. Dillicar to the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. He pointed out that this was dangerous not only to members of the public but also to workers who attended to the lawns and weeded the gardens.
