Taneatua Road Sealing A start has been made sealing the State Highway from Taneatua through the Waimana Gorge and it is expected that as soon as this section is completed the plant will move to Opotiki. During the past few weeks there has been some improvement on the Rotorua-Whaka-tan'e highway but it is still very rough. The Tauranga-Whakatane road is better now than it was a few months ago. Want Scheme Considered The Opotiki Chamber of Commerce is to write to the Hon. W. Sullivan, Minister of Labour, asking that the Whakatane proposal be thoroughly investigated before a decision is reached as to the future site of the deep sea port for the Bay of Plenty, according to the Opotiki News. This decision was reached after the Chamber had received information from the Tauranga Harbour Board on the present proposed site at Mount Maunganui.

Swimmers At Carnivals Whakatane swimmers had competed with a large measure of success at six night carnivals throughout the Bay of Plenty during the past year the president of the Whakatane Swimming Club, Mr J. A. Francis, said at the annual club championships on Saturday. The carnivals attended had been at Te Puke and Rotorua. He said that local swimmers had helped to put Whakatane on the map in the swimming world and it was now recognised as an up and coming club.
