St John Brigade Works Long Hours

The Whakatane St John Ambulance Brigade are still continuing their silent service to the public. Night or day, no question of oyertime, double or treble time, with them, its all the time. During last month they were on duty at all local shows and gymkhanas. The Ambulance travelled 459 miles, plus a rush trip to Auckland. Each night, from 6 o’clock to 10, two men were on duty at the hospital to assist nurses in the men’s ward. This represents a total of 35 eight-hour days. The Nursing Division are as hard working as the men, they also attended the local shows. It is not generally known, but they travel with the Ambulance, to watch over the patients, as they are brought in.
