Waimana Loses 10-5 In The Wilson Cup Maori Tennis Round
In the first elimination round for the Wilson Cup, Opotiki Maori SubAssociation defeated Waimana SubAssociation by ten matches to five. The highlight of the game was the top women's singles between Mrs C. McLaughlin and Mrs A. McCullock. Both players represented Matatua the previous week-end and the crowd enjoyed the standard of play. The match lasted 1\ hours with Mrs McLaughlin finally winning 6/4, 4/6, 8/6. Takao 6/4, 6/3; M. Apanui defeated R. Raku 6/0, 6/1; F. Papuni lost to B. Te Pou 3/6, 6/3, 4/6. Women: Mrs C. McLaughlin defeated Mrs McCullough 6/4, 4/6, 8/6; Miss K. Rangi lost to Miss D. Black 6/3, 2/6, 4/6; Mrs E. Rewita defeated Mrs Taff 6/3, 4/6, 6/4; Miss C. Tai lost to Miss R. Terewa 6/0, 3/6. 5/7. Doubles: Men: Rewita and Papuni defeated Boynton and Te Papa 6/2, 6/5; Tai and Ranania defeated Te Papa and Te Pou 6/4, 4/6, 6/3; Wehi and Apanui defeated Takao and Raku 6/0, 6/2. Women: Mrs McLaughlin and Mrs Rewita lost to Mrs McCullock and Miss Black 2/6, 1/6; Misses Rangi and Tai lost to Mrs Taff and Miss Terewa 2/6, 5/6.
