Heifer Impounded One heifer which was sold for £7 was impounded last month in the Whakatane County. Dog Registrations So far this year 141 dogs were registered in the county by the Inspector, Mr A. R. Carling. The fees amounted to £25 l2s. Traffic Licenses Last month 32 drivers’ licenses were issued in the County. Seven heavy traffic licences have been collected valued at £25 13s. Ragwort At Omataroa Complaints had been received last month of ragwort and gorse growing in the Omataroa Valley leading up to the hill country towards Waiohou, inspector A. R. Carling told the Whakatane County Council. This area was very inaccessible and had never been treated. However, it was not adjoining productive land.

Easter Air Schedule _ Because of heavy bookings over Easter, National Airways Corporation will run 11 extra aircraft from Auckland to southern centres between April 5 and 12. Altogether 53 extra flights will be run throughout New Zealand during that period. Plans have been made to run further special flights if those scheduled do not meet the demand.

Plan of Edgecumbe The replanning of the proposed township at Edgecumbe had now been completed and the whole scheme was expected to cost £750,000 the chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, told the monthly meeting of the Whakatane County Council. He said he had actually seen the plan which included internal roading, a State highway and new subway. Ohope Dust Nuisance / The dust nuisance created on the beach frontage portion of the main highway at Ohope had created much adverse comment the county engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, reported to the monthly meeting of the Whakatane County Council. This road carried a record amount of traffic over the holiday period. Like others in the county it was badly effected by the dry weather. Planking on bridges also suffered.
