SATURDAY’S SHOW WAS BIGGEST HELD IN WHAKATANE DISTRICT: CROWD OF NEARLY 10,000 ATTENDS
All Records Broken
•fTST?** * - A crowd estimated at over 9,000 and probably close to 10,000 people attended the biggest A. and P. Show ever held in this district on Saturday. There were close on 1500 cars admitted to the showground, and cars and trucks lined the adjacent streets. Entries were near the 3,000 mark, and gate takings exceeded last year’s record by over £IOO. Judges and competitors from outside districts were deeply im- „ pressed. Judging opinion generaly was that the stock exhibits could hold their own anywhere in the Dominion and that, for a show that has hitherto been regarded as a small one, the number and quality of entries'was astounding. A Waikato competitor in the ring events compared the programme and organisation favourably with the big Waikato show, and commented that it seemed incredible that such a large programme could have been pushed through so smoothly. Mr B S Barry, Mayor of Whakatsne, officially opened the show and the Society’s’ president, Mr I E. Gow, also spoke.
