Power Board Has Serious Problem Of Supply Shortage
Reporting to the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Board’s meeting at Opotiki on Tuesday, the engineermanager, Mr J. D. Dicker, again drew attention to the problem of inadequate bulk power supply and the excess of consumption over allocation. His statistics showed a deterioration in the position in the Whakatane Borough between the end of January and the 12th of this month.
For the week ended January 29 the Power Board area’s excess of consumption over i allocation was 4.30 per cent, and the Whakatane Borough’s 3.62 per cent. Both dropped in the week ending February 5, the Power Board going back to 2.38 per cent and the Whakatane Borough to 3.11 per cent. For the following week however (the last covered in the report) the Power Board area’s figure had risen slightly to 2.75, and the Whakatane Borough’s had gone up to 5.80 per cent. Though the Board discussed the situation fully, it was agreed that no immediate action could be taken except to continue to appeal to consumers to try to help the Board to work to its allocation, as there seems no immediate prospect of a substantial increase.
