Thornton W.I.
At the Thornton Women’s Institute monthly meeting Mrs Branch presided over a good attendance. Final arrangements were made for the Thornton Show, sponsored by the W.I. to be held next Saturday. The A. and P. Show was also discussed and volunteers called for to help with lunch. A letter of thanks for parcels received was read from the Scottish Link. Visitors and birthday members were presented with pretty posies of flowers. One •new member was enrolled. Mrs T. Mexted was chosen as delegate to the W.I. conference in Christchurch -next July. ' Competition winners: Best flower, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs Law 9. Best vegetable, Mrs T. Mexted 1, Mrs Sheat 2. Bowl of dahlias, Mrs C. Smith 1, Mrs T. Mexted 2. Soft toy, Mrs Robb 1, Mrs Checkley 2. The prizes in aid of general' funds was won by Mrs Ferguson.
