Large Awakqri Fire Burns Itself Out
Although one of the largest outbreaks experienced in the Awakeri district this summer a large fire discovered in the hills early thiis week has done very little damage. Burning in the hills about five or six miles back from the road between Whakatane West and Awakeri the fire has been allowed to burn itself out although a close watch has. been kept by members of the Whakatane County staff and the State Forestry Service. The fire has been burning over poor country. Late yesterday it was still smouldering.
