P. AND T. WINS CLARKE SHIELD MATCH An outright win over Taneatua by P. and T. was the convincing result of the Clarke Shield cricket match played at Taneatua on Sunday. A feature of the game was the fine bowling of Malaquin for P. and T. and Ross and Sykes for Taneatua. Details:— P. and T. 110 (Fitzsimmons 34, Emmerson 24; Ross 3 for 13, Green 2 for 12, Sykes 3 for 17) and 42 for two wickets (Paton 13; Barker 2 for 12) defeated Taneatua 31 (Shaw 9; Malaquin 4 for 8, Fitzsimmons 2 for 4, Rivett 1 for 5) and 118 (McCready 50, Baikie 19, Sykes 19 not out; Rivett 3 for 38, Malaquin 2 for 35, Paton 2 for 32) outright. EDGECUMBE BEATEN BY GALATEA In a friendly match between Edgecumbe and Galatea, Edgecumbe was defeated by 12 runs. Edgecumbe captain, K. Tunnicliffe, batted right through and made 75 runs. Bowling for Edgecumbe, B. Tunnicliffe took 5 for 20, P. Brown 4 for 42. Galatea top scorers were M. Caie and R. Nettleton, who scored 29 each. Bowling for Galatea, Wilson took 5 for 37, Nettleton 2 for 25, Salvey 2 for 30. SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEETING Tomorrow night at Rivett’s shop there is to be a special meeting of the Management Committee of the Whakatane Cricket Association, commencing at 7.45 sharp.
