MANY HOMES NOW BEING PAINTED AT WHAKATANE
More home painting is going on in the Bay of Plenty this year than ever before if the sales of paint at Whakatane and other centres in the district are any indication. Reports from hardware retail concerns all show that more people are buying house paint in larger - quantities, with the evident intention of painting their own homes. One store, which has just commenced dealing in paint in the past few years, has had more sales every summer and this year has completely broken all records.
The reason for this demand on paint seems to be the desire of most people during their summer holidays to paint thefr homes now themselves, because of the high cost demanded by skilled tradesmen. Few people can afford to have their homes painted every year unless they do it themselves and that seems to be what most are doing now.
Roofing and house paints have sold well in the past few weekis, as many people are trying to get their homes completed during Ahe dry months. However, previous experience has shown that home painters at Whakatane anyway, are usually on the job until Easter. Other paints and varnishes have also been in demand. Inside paints such as enamels have had a great run, according to the manager of one hardware store. Just before Christmas there was a good run as many people started to brighten the interior of their homes. Sales rose considerably and are still on the up-grade. The present weather has / been ideal for painting and if it continues hardware stores and other retail merchants expect the home painters to be carrying on with their’ self-irpposed tasks for some time yet.
