Almost-Human Machines Sell Assorted Goods

Many products and services,, ranging from hot coffee and nylon stockings to clothes washing and shoeshines, are sold in the United States by automatic vending machines,, These devices are quickly and easily operated by inserting the required number of coins in a slot and pushing or pulling a lever. They come in all sizes and shapes and are found in stores, restaurants, factories, railway stations, motionpicture theatres, and other public places. Insertion of a coin in one new machine entitles the customer to use of an electric razor for 6 minutes and some after-shave lotion. Still being perfected is a device that will sell hot sandwiches. The sandwiches are frozen until a customer makes his choice and are then quickly warmed by “radar cooking.” One of the latest developments is a machine that will sell three kinds of cold drinks and one hot beverage like hot chocolate or soup. A new coffee dispenser offers a customer four choices: black coffee, coffee with cream, coffee with sugar, and coffee with cream and sugar. All beverages come from the machine in containers.
