The tempo of private enterprise is apparently increasing. On a recent night a young man was halfway through downing a bottle of soft drink, when a rather harrassed young urchin tapped him on the elbow: “Can I have your bottle please, Sir?” Less than a generation ago the practice was at least to wait until the bottle was finished, but necessity,, not impoliteness, has brought about the change. The lad who won the bottle could not have hesitated another second, for there was another trader right behind him.
