Monthly Meeting Of Awakeri Y.F.C.

At this month’s meeting of the Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club on Monday evening four new members were welcomed.

A report was given by Mr P. Langley on the Y.F.C. Tug-o-War held at the Ohope sports on New Year’s Day and it was that this month’s field day' be a stock judging competition. Mr J. Miles gave an interesting lecture on the care of farm machinery, stressing the importance of adequate housing and also the fact that a few timely moments with oil can and spanner could save hours of repair work on any machine. Following this, Mr Miles answered numerous questions relating mainly to tractors. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

Few Deer Seen Only four deer were seen by a tramper in a recent trek through the Urewera Country, but with the evidence of bark-stripped undergrowth, plus miles of hoof-prints, it was safe to assume that there are thousands in the Urewera bush. About 50 pigs were seen, but in such suitable country their population must run in four figures.
