DEVIL ON THE RAMPAGE, SAYS LOCAL MINISTER
“Some people think the devil has been chained,” said Mr A. G. Ratcliffe, Seventh-day Adventist minister at Whakatane, addressing the annual conference of Adventists at present in progress at Longburn. But, if that is so, he must be on a very long chain. “World conditions are fast beccoming woi’se. Crime, of every kind, is on the increase. Juvenile delinquency figures are climbing alarmingly. Murder is no longer discussed with bated breath, it has become a commonplace occurrence. Divorces shatter the home life of millions every year. All these events prove that, far from being chained, his Satanic Majesty is on the rampage, claiming men and women as his rightful subjects. “All these events are but fulfilling prophecy,” said Mr Ratcliffe. “Jesus Himself said that wickedness would increase toward the end of time. The world has never seen such turmoil among nations, such moral degeneracy, such spiritual apathy, such disregard for the rights of others as exists today, but to the Christian it is just one more signpost pointing to the nearness of the second coming of Christ.”
