Helpful Hints

Velvet Coat* Hangers If you cover coat hangers with velvet—any odd pieces left over from dresses will do—even the flimsiest of frocks will not slip off as is usually the case with the uncovered hangers. Greasy Marks Greasy marks on sinks and baths can be removed if rubbed with a rag moistened with paraffin, and a good way of removing more obstinate stains is to flush the sink and then sprinkle it with chloride of lime. Leave the lime there all night and then flush with hot water in the morning, rubbing hard with a mop or brush. Every trace of stain will have disappeared. There are, besides, excellent scouring powders for cleaning sinks. Wool Wisdom

If you want just a few inches more wool to finish a jumper and you can’t match it or haven’t time "to go out and buy another ounce, undo about half an ounce of wool from the garment, wind fit round a stone hot-water bottle filled with hot water to remove the kinks, and re-knit the garment with it. You will find that the wool has stretched just that extra bit and that you have enough to finish the garment.
