PUBLIC NOTICES THORNTON-MAT AT A PONY CLUB GYMKHANA MARCH 4, 1950 Burt’s Paddock. £125 in Prizes. 430 MATAHINA RURAL FIRE DISTRICT The above Fire District has been constituted under The Forests and Rural Fires Act 1947 and comprises the following properties situated in the Matahina locality, near Te Teko: The plantation and bush blocks controlled by Whakatane Board Mills Ltd., the bush blocks owned by Geo. Syme & Co. Ltd. and Smith & Batley Ltd., the plantation owned by Redwood Forests Ltd., vacant land owned by Western Yellow Pine Forests Ltd., together with a number of farm properties lying south of the Racecourse at Te Teko and on each side of the Rangitaiki River. Exact details of the district may be obtained from the undersigned. A Fire Season has been proclaimed for the District, commencing on Ist October, 1949, and ending on 30th April, 1950. During the Fire Season, it is an offence 1. To light fires in the District or throw cigarette butts, matches or other inflammable things. 2. To operate in the District any locomotive or engine, portable or stationary, without safe means of preventing the escape of sparks, coals etc. 3. To carry out any, burning operations whatever in the District during the Fire Season without a permit from the Fire Officer.' The penalty for each such offence is imprisonment up to one month or a fine up to £IOO. , It is a Statutory duty for any person discovering an unattended fire in the District to do his best to put the fire out and to report the fire to the Fire Officer.
