OHOPE SPORTS TAKINGS AHEAD OF LAST YEAR’S
Monday’s sports carnival at Ohope
takings 50 per cent up on last year’s good figures. This year, the Progress League had planned a better variety of events and side shows, and the patronage showed the effort was appreciated by the public. x Horse events, motor cycling, na-
tional dancing, athletics, children’s traces —there was something to interest everybody. But the large programme took a lot of handling, and
the officials had a gruelling day. Horse events, of which there were none in last year’s programme, drew some of the best competitors
in the district, and proved amongst
the main attractions. As was to be expected, a lot of the excitement
■Was provided by the motor-cyclists, who turned on some thrilling riding over a tricky course. Results:— CHILDREN’S EVENTS: race 4 years and under, George
