Contractors On Public Works May Engage Other Work
In response to a request from the Bay of Plenty Sub-Province of Auckland Federated Farmers, the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority has indicated that it will lend a sympathetic hearing to any request from vehicles, operating under a Public Works contract to be made available for similar work when not needed under the conThe chairman, Mr R. W. Dunning, Otakiri, asked how long the application would take to go through the authprity, From the wording of the reply from the authority it appeared that the grant would be automatic, replied the secretary, Mr J. Schofield. He pointed out, however, that the letter indicated that any application for permission to do the additional work would have to come from the carriers themselves and that any farmer desiring to have cartage done by these men would have to approach the carriers.
