TWO LONG WEEKENDS IN TOWN FOR XMAS & NEW YEAR

Over Christmas and the new year period shops and businesses at Whakatane will observe similar hours and will be closed both week-ends for four days. Those shops that are not having their annual leave now will close on Friday and reopen on the following Wednesday, December 28. This applies to all food stores, grocers, butchers and bakers.

Other stores will open on the same Wednesday until Friday, December 30. They will close again until January 4 when the usual hours will be resumed for the year.'

Milk bars will be shut on December 25 and January 1 and will be open on the same days as picture theatres, which services will not be interrupted. Banks close at Whakataen on Friday but will not open until December 29. They will close on the following day until January 4.

There will be no changes in the ordinary transport arrangements of the Road Services at Whakatane.

Post Office Hours On Friday, December 30 there will be the usual attendance at the Whakatane Post Office including tRe normal Friday evening attendance, on Saturday, December 31 the usual Saturday morning hours of attendance (9 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.) will be observed, and deliveries will be made by postmen and rural carriers. Mails for despatch will close as is usual on Saturdays. Street posting boxes will be cleared at 6 a.m.

■ Closed holidays will be observed on Monday and Tuesday, December 26 and 27, and January 2 and 3. There will be no deliveries by postmen or rural carriers on these days. The Money Order and Savings Bank branch of the post office will have the usual attendance including the normal Friday evening attendance on Friday and December 30. On Saturday and December 31 the branch will be closed as usual. It will be closed on the same days as other branches.

However the telephone exchange will be open continuously.
