TANEATUA BEATS WAIMANA ON FIRST INNINGS Taneatua defeated Waimana by-' 59 runs on the first innings in a cricket match played* at Taneatua on Sunday. > Taneatua batted first and after losing two wickets for 12 ruris, a bright display by W. McCready 73 and A. Green 59 brought the score to 116 before McCready was .caught behind attempting to hit a short ball from McConnell. A. Green, after his shaky start, continued to score freely until struck by a rising ball and he was out shortly after, caught McConnell, bowled Ruff. ' • • ~

J. Sykes carried his bat for ten after seeing five batsmen loses, their wickets before making double figures. Veteran bowler J. Ruff bore the brunt .of the attack, bowling 15 overs, six of which 'were maidens, and- v taking four wickets for 41. J. Lowe also bowled well, nine overs, two maidens, 5 for 16. McConnell took the other wicket for 14 runs.

After the adjournment Waimana went out to face the Taneatua attack and in the third over Barker removed Ruff’s leg stump with the score at four.
