9 O’Clock Closing Wanted on Fridays
There will probably be no change* in the, closing and opening hours of businesses at Whakatane if the
negotiations now being conducted by the Auckland Retailers’ Asso--ciation for, an amendment to the Northern Industrial District Retail •and Shop Assistants' award to enable retailers to remain open until 9 p.m. on Fridays, is successful according to the chairman of the Whakatane Retailers’ Association, Mr R. “ T. Morpeth. At present Whakatane shops remain open until 9 p.m. on Fridays but this is for the convenience of the public until Christmas, Mr Morpeth added. The old closing hour of 8.30 p.m. will 'be reverted to after the holidays. Mr Morpeth said that even if the negotiations for 9 p.m. .closing were successful he thought it was probable that Whakatane retailers would -continue to close -at 8.30 p.m.
