FIRST INNINGS WIN FOR P. & T.
P. and T. beat Taneatua at Whakatane on the first innings, helped considerably by a brilliant century by S. Shapley. Shapley thereby wins the cup held by J. B. Rivett: last year for the first century of the season in the Whakatane Association’s competition. Taneatua first innings 143 (W. McCready 54, A. Martin 34; Seebeck 3 for 2, B. Whiteside 1 for 9). Second innings 4 for 55 (McCready 22, Martin 19; Fitzsimmons 2 for 15). P. and T. first innings 246 for 4, declared (Shapley 100 retired, J. B. Rivett 64, Seebeck 22 declared; Shaw 1 for 22, Martin 1 for 33). WAIMANA DOWNED BY TE TEKO More accurate bowling in a steady attack helped to give Te Teko a first innings win over Waimana in a senior cricket match at Waimana yesterday. Waimana batsmen failed to withstand the onslaught of the visitors, especially Lyon, who took 5 for 20. This performance was equalled by Ruff of Waimana, who claimed 6 for 27. Details:— Te Teko 152 for 9 declared (Griffiths 26, Tunnicliffe 22, Revell 20; Ruff 6 for 27, McConnochie' 2 for 22) defeated Waimana 52 (Ruff 12; Pattison 3 for 9, Woods 1 for 5) and 31 (Lyon 5 for 20). .
