Taneatua W.I. Now Twenty Years Old: Celebrations Held

An enjoyable evening was spent when members of the Taneatua Women’s Institute, their friends and guests from neighbouri'ng Institutes met to celebrate their twentieth birthday. A 'competition, “find the mystery woman” was won by Mrs J. Shaw. A musical competition was won by Mrs Anderson. A sketch entitled The Member’s Other Paw, presented by Mesdames Merrie, McGougan and K. Tebbutt caused much amusement.

Miss C. Doran played musical selin an accomplished fashion, While two items were presented by the Glee Club. A competition arranged by members of the gardening circle was won by Miss and Mrs Hill 1 equal. A horse was “sold”, but this time it was a gift, the “horse” being a delectable sponge cake made by Mrs Hayward and won by Mrs A. Sisam.

A mime, “The Gay Caballero” was enacted lay Mesdames Goodhue, Gardner and K. Tebbutt with vocal accompaniment by the Glee Club. A quiz with teams of two representing each Institute, Division and visitors was held, the team representing the Taneatua W.D.F.F. being the most successful. The programme concluded with an amusing sketch, “The Cure for Deafness,” presented by Mesdames Hayward, Gardner, McDonald and H. Sisam. A delicious birthday cake made by Mrs A. Tebbutt and iced by Mrs Frost, was cut by Mrs W. Semmens, a foundation member of the Institute. Monthly competitions were judged by Mrs W. Sisam and Mrs Tebbutt, Senr. Best vegetable, Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs Butler 3; best flower, Mrs R. McGougan 1, Mrs Merrie 2, Mrs Laird 3; plum sauce, Mrs Torrie 1, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs Reeves 3; bowl for effect, Mrs McGougan 1, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs Bennett 3.
