Pepper and new potatoes, which have been in short' supply for the last few, weeks, are still scarce at Whakatane and from inquiries about the town show no sign of any immediate increase, ty'ery. little potato, digging is reported to be going on now and that is one reason why the shortage caused through 7 this season's bad crop has not been .overtaken. One retailer said yesterday that he could give no indication when the position was likely to improve for either potatoes or pepper.
