CHAMPION RIDERS ENTER N.Z. HILL CLIMB (By “Exhaust”) Saturday will see the most im- - portant event the Bay of Plenty Motor Cycle Club has ever conducted at Whakatane, the New Zealand 500 cc Road Hill Climb Champion- , ■ ship for 1949-50. The Auto-Cycle Union decided that there was no \ available hill in the country which , : provided a more exacting test than the Hillcrest Road. Such is the / fame of the road among the riders that entries have been received from as far away as Wanganui, Palmer- k ston North and Auckland. Among some supporters, S. Jensen, after his win here last year is a ‘ firm favourite, but by others, L. N Perry is being picked as a winner.' The latter 'was second last year, after making only one complete W run, being 1-5 second behind Jensen. On his second run, when trying to cut his time by as much as three seconds he crashed. Jensen, however, should be a vastly improv- y ed rider since his trip to England and the Continent. \ There he surprised their ci’itics by running fifth in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race—the world’s greatest motor cycle race. As recognition of this amazing feat the Triumph Motor Cycle Co. in England presented Jensen with the .‘Grand Prix’ Triumph, which he will probably be riding at Whakatane. The only Whakatane , representative in the event is F. Cameron on his Norton. With this powerful motor cycle and his determination he too, is a possible winner.
