Mr Fraser Speaks To Ruatoki Meeting On Maori Problems

An attentive crowd of both Maori and Pakeha listened to the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, discuss different problems confronting the Maori race at Ruatoki yesterday. He spoke on the Maori land development scheme, housing and other work now being carried out and hinted at further work, which was now just in the planning stage. Mr Fraser received a number of deputations asking for work to be carried out on land outside the development scheme now'" operating at Ruatoki. The Prime Minister was accompanied on this visit by Mr J. Omana, present sitting Labour member for Eastern Maori, Mr B. Otene, Labour Party Maori organiser, Mr T. Ropiha, under-secretary oLMaori Affairs, and Mr T. G. Santon. Labour candidate for the Bay of Plenty electorate.

After the meeting Mr Fraser returned to Rotorua.
