Caledonian Society's Annual Meeting: Finances Sound
At the annual meeting of the Whakatane District Caledonian Society on Tuesday night the Chief, Mr W. J. Simons, presided over an attendance of 48 members, which number, in view of the total membership of the Society, was not considered good. Reports concerning the year’s activities were received from the Chief, the Pipe-Major of the band, Mr K. Ferguson, Mrs P. Lynds of the social committee and Mr P. Dixon for the dancing class. Those reports, and the highly satisfactory balance sheet were adopted by the meeting. There was an excess of income over expenditure of £53 11s for the year ended September 30 last. , V >7
Though the meeting was characterised by some long discussions, particularly concerning band matters, most of the time was spent with purely domestic affairs and there were few decisions of general public interest.
It was, however, recommended to the executive that a young people’s elub be formed under the jurisdiction of the senior Society, with an age limit of 21 years. This body, if formed, would be intended to replace the self-governing organisation that was disbanded about two months ago. Officers elected were:—
Patron, Mr T. Grant; Chief, Mrs M. Craig; secretary-treasurer, Mr T. Morgan; chieftains, Messrs W. J. Simons, T. Fergusson, Pipe-Major, Mr K. Ferguson; executive committee, Mesdames R. Dockray, J, King, Messrs W. Abbott, and E. B. Hay; auditor, Mr Andrew Nicoll; social committee, Mrs P. Lynds, Messrs A. W. Mclntosh, G. Tweedie With power to add; chaplain, Rev. R. T. Dodds; hall caretaker, Mrs A. McKenzie.
