Beacon Gets The Bantams
It doesn't take things long to get round, when the Beacon gets on the job. We get some kicks, alright, and in fairness to the kickers we publish them. Occasionally we get a kick out of a pat on the back, and we consider it only fair to ourselves to publish this one: Wednesday's paper carried a story appealing to citizens, with broody Bantams to offer them as expectant mothers to broods of pheasants. Now, not every citizen has a broody Bantam. But nearly every citizen reads the Beacon (in spite of some recent dirty wisecracks), so the Red and Gun Club's officials started getting offers from all over the district.
Yesterday they rang the Beacon delighted. They had all but two. of the chooks they needed and told us we'd done a great job. But they did not want to discourage any other potential pheasant breeders. If more broody hens are offered, there will be more eggs.
