Old “Good Deed” Was Not Forgotten
The day’s “good deed” of two Boy .Scouts 28 years ago when they saved an only child from drowning was never forgotten by the grateful parents. The rescuers, Joe Starkie and Sidney Berry, now middle-aged men, of Blackburn, Lancashire, heard recently they had been left £IOO each by Mr James Herbert Twamley, of Bedford. In 1921 they were camping on the shores of Grasmere Lake, Beatrice, 17-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Twamley got into difficulties while swimming and the boys rescued her.
