Thornton W.I. Sees Unusual Cake Icing Demonstration

I The monthly meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Branch. Mesdames McQueen and Tooke were chosen as v delegates for the bi-an-nual Council meeting at Otakiri this week. A box of heather was received from the Scottish Link and a lettes of thanks read for the parcels received.

Mrs Blake gave an interesting demonstration on the icing of a cake in the shape of a house. Competition results were:— Crochet edging, Mrs Checkley 1, Mrs Sheat 2; three poppies, Mrs T. Mexted 1, Mrs Magee 2; cheese straws, Mrs Robb 1, Mrs Tooke 2; best vegetable, Mrs T. Mexted 1, Mrs Sheat 2; best flower, Mrs Ferguson 1, Mrs McQueen 2.

The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Branch, Tooke, T. Mexted and Foote.

Mrs D. Branch won the prize in aid of general funds.
