Aurora Australis Seen
A bright display of the Aurora . Australis was seen from Whakatane on Saturday night. The display, lit the heavens to the south for a colourful period and then died away to a deep crimson glow. Carrot Growers’ Problem Carrot growers in this district are bemoaning the '.fact that there is none- of the Holmes reed available this year.. The Fields Instructor, Mr E. R. Marryatt, has made inquiries all over Taranaki, the home of the Holmes carrot, without success
Electoral Roll Closed The Bay of Plenty main roll for the coming general election has closed with 14,718 electors listed; and enrolments are now being taken for the supplementary roll, which will probably close on Monday, November 7. The Returning Officer advises that copies of the main roll have been sent to all Post Offices in the electorate for inspection by the public.

Webb), . discussing*'' possible dollar austerity. Further newsprint restriction could be contemplated, but that, too, was most undesirable, if it could possibly be avoided.
Will Not Lose Sight - The condition of Mrs P. Simons, Ohope, who was struck in the ' eye by the lid of an exploding paint, tin last week is now very much improved and it is 'now believed that she will not lose her sight permanently. Soon after the accident Mrs Simons was taken to Hamilton for examination bv an eye specialist. Slid is now in the Waikato Hospital undergoing treatment. and is expected to .be there for some- time yet.
Two Vehicles Collide When a motor- truck driven, by Mr R. Bluett collided with a car owned by Mr T. S. Nixon, on the corner of McAlister Street and Domain Road at about 9.20 a.m. yesterday both vehicles were slightly | damaged by nobody was injured.. Mr Bluett was proceeding in a northerly direction along McAlister Street when his truck collided with Mr Nixon’s car, which was travelling towards the west along Domain • Road.
