Additional Allowances
Additional staffing allowances for maintaining classes for pupils of lower than average intelligence will be sought by the New Zealand Tech 7 nical Education Association.
Shed Lock Broken A lock on a shed beside the winter show building at Whakatane was found smashed yesterday. None of the contents in the shed were found damaged at all and so far nothing is believed to have been stolen.
Whitebait Distract Workers Some good catches of whitebait have been made at Whakatane in the past few days. At one stage on Tuesday the fish were running so thickly that men unloading one of the ships .ceased work for a while and watched large shoals milling round the wharf.
Maori Electoral Roll The main Maori electoral roll to be used at the coming election has been completed -and contains a total of 30,091 names distributed among the four electorates. Eastern Maori has 11,506 names, .Northern Maori 7,927, Western Maori 10,406 and Southern Maori 1,252.
Rubberising Playgrounds In installing the new American rubber playgrounds crushed stone is first applied to a foundation. Then it is sealed with a “hot mix” asphalt and this base covered with a half-inch of ground rubber. The yard is then rolled to impregnate the rubber particles into the asphalt.
Bay of Plenty Roll The main roll of persons in the Bay of Plenty electorate who are entitled to vote at the coming General Election has now been completed. It contains 14,718 names. Over 300 names have so far been received for the Supplementary Roll, which will close in about three. weeks. Thfere were 128,450 names on / the rolls at the last election. W
New Transport Service , On Wednesday Brabant Bros, started a new transport service be- 1 " tween Murupara and Whakatane. They have also announced the establishment of a branch establishment to serve the Murupara-Gal-atea area. The new freight service will run in the meantime on Wednesdays' only, leaving Murupara at 8 a.m. and Whakatane at 2 p.m. If support warrants it, it is hoped to increase the frequency later. P.B.A.
Knee Injured Fairly serious injuries to the knee were suffered by Robin Zinsli, 12 year old son of Mr and Mrs C. Zinsli, Commerce Street, Whakatane, when he fall on a stone outside the children’s play area oppossite the Commercial Hotel late Tuesday afternoon. He was admits ted immediately to the Whakatane District Hospital where his condition is now reported to be very satisfactory.
