ASSOCIATION MEETING AT MATATA

Cricket

At the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Cricket Association at Matata on Sunday the fact that the United players had not been included in the Whakatane competition following the club’s decision not to play Sunday,, cricket occasioned some discussion, during which United’s attitude Was stated, and it was explained on behalf of the other Clubs that, with a preponderance of country players, they found it hard to field teams on Saturdays. Finally it was decided to seek a ruling from the N.Z. Council as to 1 whether United could participate in representative selections for the Whakatane: Association if the Club continued Saturday play.

There was -some heated comment upon the fact that the Bay had been ignored in the itinerary for the Australians, and the meeting decided to send a strong protest to the N.Z. Association. It is realised that, with the very full itinerary already mapped out, it will be impossible at this stage to make an alteration to include Bay of Plenty, but the Association wants to make sure it will npt be overlooked again in future. It "is interesting to note • that a Bay team has never yet been c beaten on its own ground by an overseas touring side. Headquarters of the Association will again be Rotorua this year, Messrs Musgrave and G. Beale,'Rotorua, being elected president and secretary respectively. Mr H. G. Warren, Whakatane, was elected patron and hon. auditor, Mr L. R. Spring sole selector, and Messrs Spring and N. E. Rigden members of the management committee.
