First Day Sales Set New Record
With total sales amounting to £69,925, New Zealand’s first day sales for 1949 Health Stamps exceeded last year’s all time record by £3,272. Christchurch had the highest figures with £10,457. Dunedin was the first to reach its quota, exceeding it by £2,000, and Wanganui was second.
District figures are: Auckland, £8,599; Blenheim, £612; Christchurch, £10,457; Dunedin, £8,631; Gisborne, £1,525; Greymouth, £1,220; Hamilton, £5,367; Invergcarilli, £2,230; Masterton, £1,113; Napier, £1,935; Nelson, £1,183; New Plymouth, £1,865; Oamaru, £793; Palmerston North, £3,346; Thames, £2,796; Timaru, £2,034; Wanganui, £2,745; Wellington, £9,229; Westport, £360 and Whangarei, £1,312.
