“Mystery Boy” Was Missing From An Auckland Home

The boy who was found by the Whakatane police wandering along the railway line near Taneatua last Wednesday has been identified as John Kelvert Greer, who had been missing from the Owaraka Boys’ Home, Mount Albert, since September 23. He was returned to the home on Saturday.

When the boy was found by the police he gave his name as John Kdwert Greer Miller. He told a story of being dropped at the Whakatane West Railway Station by his father, who was a stranger to the district and lived 2 miles from Edgecumbe. This was subsequently found to be incorrect.

The boy had been missing from the home after keeping an appointment with the dentist on September 23. He had failed to return and since then had wandered . down through the Waikato to the King Country and then to the Bay of Plenty. He had stolen a number of goods in the course of his travels, and slept out in the open most of the time.
