English Replacing German

English has replaced German as the international language of scientific research. The change was announced when the CIBA Foundation “for the promotion of international co-operation of medical and chemical research” was opened in Portland Place, London.

The Foundation will invite chemists 1 , scientists and doctors from all over the world to meet for informal discussions across a dinner table.

Royal Society of Medicine president, Sir Henry Dale, who opened the new centre, said it would help industrial laboratories all over the world to overcome the “crippling disease” of secrecy among scientists.
