Large Number Of Export Changes A Constant Problem

Changes in overseas countries’ import polcies are a perpetual difficulty for car manufacturers and the latest news from the export markets will not ease the position. New Zealand has announced that complete cars will no longer be imported, but has softened this blow by increasing the import licences for unassembled cars by 25 per cent. Statements also emanated from South Africa recently suggesting that complete cars w'ould not be imported into the Union after June, but confirmation of this is still awaited; South Africa’s economic position is worsening. India also gave rise to a rumour that import restrictions would be placed upon cars after May 20, but here again details are not yet known. This little eruption is typical of what is going on all the time in the export trade, and it is a source of wonder that the figures for car exports are maintained in the face of so much and so frequent changing.
