Whakatane Woman Wins Bay Of Plenty Golf Championship
Outstanding golf was played by the Whakatane player, Mrs G. Tip- ' pett, when she defeated Mrs J. • R.Morris, Auckland, three up and one, to win the Bay of Plenty women’s open golf championship, which was concluded at the Whakatane Golf Club’s links on Friday afternoon. Throughout the tournament Mrs Tippett had been playing consistently good golf in a championship .that,, produced a very high standard . Whakatane golfers had considerable success in some of the other events. The foursome went to. the local pair, Mrs B. Barry and Miss S. Otley, while Mrs T. Danks won the junior medal round. Five other Whakatane players were runnersup in different events. At the conclusion of the tournament, which was played in fine weather throughout, trophies wefe presented by the women’s president of the Club, Mrs Otley. Full results:— Bay of Plenty Championship, Semi-finals: Mrs J. R. Morris (Auckland) beat Mrs Crawford 1 (Rotorua), 1 up; Mrs G. Tippett (Whakatane) beat Miss G. Ferguson (Rotorua) 1 up. Final: Mrs Tippett beat Mrs Morris, 3 and 2. Whakatane Cup, final: Mrs Tallis (Mt. Maunganui) beat Mrs Fenwick (Gisborne) 3 and 2. Championship flight: Mrs S. S. Wilson (Auckland) j beat Mrs Robb (Gisborne), 2 and 1. Handicap flight: Mrs Crichton (Mt.
Maunganui); runner-up Mrs Otley (Whakatane); Gross medal: Mrs J.
