Successful N.Z. Maori Composer

The Maori composer of modern music, Ruru Karaitiana, one of the most successful of the New Zealand composers was the subject of the golden thread given by Mrs Rae to the monthly meeting of the Kowhai Women’s Institute at Whakatane. The Roll Call, a Garden Hint, was well responded to and many helpful suggestions for the improvement of gardens were given by members.

Movie films were shown by Mr Hahn and scenes of interesting events held in Whakatane and other places of interest in New Zealand were enjoyed. Mr . Hahn was accorded a vote of thanks and Mrs Hahn was presented witha posy of spring flowers. A competition drawing an elephant caused much amusement and was won by Miss G. Brown. Lucky number competition was won by Mrs Dippie. Montly competition results:— Smocked article, Miss Bayley 1, Miss Richardson 2, Miss F. Fife 3. Three daffodils, Mrs Whitworth I, Mrs' Millar 2, Miss Brown 3. Hostesses were: Mrs Johnson, Mrs McCallion, Miss Harding, Miss Sutcliffe.
