.In the first round of an interclub match between Awakeri and Whakatane for the Rivett Cup, played in the St John’s Hall, Wha ; - katane, on Saturday morning, a tense atmosphere prevailed throughout as the issue remained in doubt until'the final set was played, Whakatane winning 5 sets to 3, and be coming the first holders of the Cup.
