Five Regattas Five regattas were attended by the Whakatane Rowing Club during last season it was reported to the annual meeting. The record in these tournaments were one second, six thirds and seven fourths.

New Racing Skiffs During the season a new racing skiff was purchased and an order was placed for two more stated the president, Mr R. T. Morpeth, at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Rowing Club. These are expected to arrive some time during the coming season.

N.Z. Industries Fair A N.Z. Industries’ Fair will be held in Auckland in March and April, 1950, according to the annual report of the Department of Industries and Commerce. A composite exhibit illustrating services rendered by the Government to the country in general and to industry in particular is being planned.

41 Health Stamps Issued Since 1929 41 Health Stamps have been issued in New Zealand, this total including the issue about to be placed on sale. The purchase price of one of each of these stamps is about 6s but their market value today is at least £ls and it is said that at this price the stamps are sought after in many parts of the world.

Public Service List

A list of persons employed in the Public Service up to September 39 of this year has just been published in New Zealand. A bulky document it contains the names of all the public servants listed in each individual department. It contains 431 pages of the grading, salary and qualifications of the public employees, together with the salary scales for each department.

Gifts For New Settlers When ten families of the. Eastern European migrants already established at Murupara arrived on Friday night from Pahiatua, they were welcomed by the social committee of the community, of which Mr M. Wharehui is chairman and food parcels, the gifts of the children of the Rangitahi District Maori High School, were available for their immediate needs. A quantity of crockery was purchased from the funds raised at a dance in Tangiharuru pa.
