EDGECUMBE BALL WAS THE SOCIAL EVENT OF YEAR
Despite the disappointing support., even by members, who failed to give the committee the fullest assistance, the first annual ball of the Edgecumbe Hockey. Club was an undoubted success and attracted < dancers from all over the district \ on Thursday night. The colourful evening dresses and the bright decorations of the hall created a gay atmosphere for Edgecumbe’s social event of the year. • The hall was. particularly well decorated with long swaying streamers of black and white, the club colours, nikau palms , while graceful bunches of lilies and roses adorned the walls. The nikau palms had been used to striking effect as a background to the stage and were relieved by vases of rhododendrons and iceland poppies. Crossed sticks livened with the club colours formed a centre piece with the numerous trophies won during the year prominently displayed too. Mr Ken Civil was master of ceremonies, and did a fine job. Extras were played by Miss N. Huish, while Mr Bill Mundy gave two vocal items. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Shirley Waugh and Mr Rodger Hunter.' The Grand March was led by Mr O. V. Marx, Association President, and Mrs Marx. The! supper was served on a lavish scale and was beautifully arranged' ijn buffet style in the centre of the hall.
